13 ways to save on airline travel

With pricing increasing due to energy cost raising it is getting more difficult to get a great deal. So here are 13 helpful ways.

1. Buy online – Purchase tickets directly on the airline’s Web site. Many airlines will give as much as 10 percent off ticket prices to customers who purchase them online.

2. Avoid the middleman – Compare your findings with online agency to find the best fare. Then you should also visit airline’s Web site directly. You’ll save the booking fee charged by the online agency.

3. Be flexible when planning your trip – People with flexible travel dates and destinations tend to get the best bargains. If you are willing to fly any carrier at any time from any airport in their area you will have more luck getting a better deal.

4. Fly on smaller airlines – Most often it will mean lower fares.

5. Sale not always best – The sale price on an airline ticket is not always the lowest price. You may be able to find a lower price on a ticket that is not on sale from another airline. Be sure to check.

6. Create multiple options – To get the best deal possible, check prices on flights from two or more airports in your area. The savings may surprise you and be well worth the little extra driving time.

7. Fees can be taxing – Whatever ticket price you’re quoted, make sure it includes taxes and fees. They can bump up a ticket price by $100 or more. Some ads for low fares don’t include taxes and fees. Make sure you’re not comparing apples to oranges.

8. Invite price alerts – Keep track of last-minute sales by signing up for e-mail alerts from airlines with major hubs in your area.

9. Difference a day makes – Cut airfare costs by traveling on off-peak days such as Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

10. Wake-up call – Traveling at off-hours may save you money. The less-filled 6 a.m. flight can be a bargain.

11. Shop early – Buy your tickets in advance.

12. Members only – Join the frequent-flier program of each airline that you fly to earn free tickets.

13. Rewarding experience – Use an airline-reward credit card to make monthly purchases and pay that balance off every month. You’ll accrue air miles faster. Cash them in for ticket upgrades and free travel.

Disney World is a magical place but there’s nothing magical about the long lines you can experience waiting for rides and attractions. Read on to learn the steps you can take to avoid long lines at Disney World.

Plan your trip for a less busy time of year.

Disney World
doesn’t really have an “off season” but crowds will be much larger during the times when kids are traditionally off of school – Spring Break, the Summer months, and during the holiday season. If you can avoid these peak times you will have the advantage of less crowded parks.

Stay on the property.

Walt Disney World
ticket holders who also stay at one of the Walt Disney World resorts get the benefit of extended park hours at no additional cost. Since extended hours are not available to ticket holders staying off the property, the crowds will be smaller and the lines will be shorter during those extended hours.

Eat your meals during non-meal times.

If you can ride when everyone else is eating and eat when everyone else is riding, you will experience shorter lines at both restaurants and at rides/attractions.

Use the Fast Pass option.

At popular rides and attractions Disney World offers a Fast Pass option, which can reduce your wait time significantly. A Fast Pass ticket can be obtained by entering your park ticket into the Fast Pass machine in front of the ride or attraction. The Fast Pass ticket will tell you what time to return to enter the Fast Pass line.

Think left, not right.

If you’re entering the park at the beginning of the day, chances are you’re entering with hundreds of other park guests. The natural inclination is to head to the right. You may experience shorter lines during the morning hours if you buck the trend and head left instead.
